FL2K For Butter
Follow along as EVP.MOde's, Brandon Toole recaps a bittersweet weekend racing at the FL2K 2024 Event.
"First and foremost, a huge thank you to Brian Crower for pulling all the strings to allow us to run some exhibition passes on the same stage as all the big dogs at FL2k. It was an honor to have a couple SxS lanes at this massive event. We proved these machines can run solid passes that impressed the fans and racers alike."
This was a bittersweet weekend for us.
"An event like this is exactly what Mike 'Butter' Garcia wanted to compete in before he passed away last year. Days after he passed, with tears in our eyes, Humberto at Mera Motorsports and I agreed at some point we would build his car the way he would have wanted in his honor. After getting confirmation that we could run at FL2k 4 weeks before the event, it was a mad dash to make it happen, the car wasn’t even a rolling chassis in early September"."We threw together a plan and pushed late into the night for weeks from opposite sides of the country. The car fired up for the first time Tuesday night and came off the Dyno at 3am Thursday morning with a ton of work left to get this car and two others finished and ready for the track. We showed up to Bradenton Motorsports Park Friday at 1am."
"Due to some weather on Thursday, and ultimately rain all day Sunday, the event needed to be fast-tracked so they could get through the finals Saturday night. This cut our chances to make passes between rounds and left us with three runs for the weekend."
"First pass on Mike’s car, we put a very conservative A to B tune in it and ended up going 6.03 at 115mph in the 1/8 mile. Alex Garces in his EVP P43r-equipped X3 ran a 6.08 at 109mph on low boost.
Second pass we put a tad more power into Mike’s car and went 5.90 at 118mph with a bit of tire shake hurting the 60ft. Alex Garces pushed the P43r deeper into the 6’s after some clutch changes running 6.01 at 110mph.
The third and final pass, we threw a little more power than we had data for in Mike's car and shook the tires pretty bad which ended up breaking the belt about 150’ into the run. We turned up the P43r for Alex and he ran a blazing 5.92 at 112mph!"
"We can’t wait to continue to push these cars further and see more SxS with slicks and skinny’s at future events."
