Race Recap 2024 Fall Hootenanny at Crossbar Ranch
The EVP race team headed South to attend the 5th annual SXS USA event at the Crossbar Ranch.
"Like every Hunter Owen/SXS USA event, the races are a blast to participate in! The combination of Hunter’s MCing and the laser light show makes for an unforgettable experience." - Jim Zuccone"
Stock Class
Many of the favorite EVP racers came to party, including Dusin Couch, the Fisher family, the Reid family, and more. Unfortunately, the Reid’s lost their beloved Dixie Labrador Retriever the morning of the race, so Stephanie Reid let EVP Co-Owner Jim Zuccone pilot their EVP Tuned Maverick R. The rounds started and Dustin Couch began picking off one competitor at a time with his EVP-tuned Can-Am X3 that he worked hard on the chassis and clutch setup. While newcomer Courtney Fisher also made her way through the rounds with her Can-Am X3. Jim tuned Courtney’s X3 while the Fisher family also worked to get the car to take off just right. In round two, Jim Zuccone in the Reids’ Maverick R lined up with Courtney, which resulted in Courtney losing to Jim by a tire. Courtney’s superb reaction time was on point and took Jim by surprise – not expecting a new racer to be that good on the tree. In round three, Jim drew Dustin. Knowing the times Dustin was running, Jim knew his only chance to beat Dustin was to beat him on the tree. Unfortunately, Jim red lit and gave Dustin the win. Courtney continued to make her way through the rounds until round 5 where Jim and Courtney matched up again. In a great race, Jim edged out Courtney, this time by half a tire, which gave Courtney 3rd place and put Jim in the finals with Dustin. Dustin came into the finals undefeated. Jim and Dustin lined up and left within .01 seconds of one another, but Dustin’s 60’ was much quicker than Jim’s giving Dustin the championship. Congratulations Dustin Couch, Jim Zuccone, and Courtney Fisher for their 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishes.
Mod Class
The Mod class was filled with fast cars, including Michael Reid's Gen 3 P43R Can-Am X3 "Bat Mobile", Travis Bouche's P43R Can-Am X3 piloted by Charlie McDonald, Cameron Underwood's P43R Can-Am X3, Josh Carmon's P43R Can-Am X3, Alex Kolpacke's Can-Am X3 and more. Mike Reid has dominated this class for the last two years and was the favorite to win. Mike and Stephanie Reid work hard on their race program, including coming up to the EVP headquarters in Somerset, WI to work on the chassis and clutching. Mike and Steph do all of their own prep and setup under the guidance of Dan Picht and Jim Zuccone. Mike did what Mike does: run a flawless race going from A to B each time with no mistakes and all the right maintenance between rounds. Charlie and Cameron also worked through the rounds in some great racing. As the bracket progressed, Mike Reid came into the finals undefeated. Alex and Charlie battled it out with Alex's 46mm turbo car beating out Travis's 43mm turbo car. Cameron took a respectable 4th place, given that his car is 1750 lbs with a driver. Cameron's car is custom tuned by EVP's Brandon Toole. All EVP cars have TAPP Primary clutches with Michael Reid running the new TAPP secondary clutch. Congratulations to Mike Reid, Alex Kolpacke, and Charlie McDonald for their 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishes! Mike Reid and Travis Bouchey's Can-Am X3's are tuned by EVP Co-Owner Jim Zuccone on the factory ECU.
Outlaw Class
The outlaw class was filled with many fast cars including the EVP Record Holder Pro R, Brody Fisher with his Desert Storm Can-Am X3, another Pro R, Travis Bouchey with his EVP build 50mm Can-Am X3 and a bunch of fast Can-Am X3’s from the Mod Class. Brody Fisher kicked off the first race against Alex with Brody beating Alex. Brody’s car was on a mission running a 1.3 60’ on a fairly slippery track. The EVP Pro R piloted by Dan Picht was definitely the crowd favorite as it would wheelie every time Dan hit the roller at mid track, Dan would pedal it and the car would go immediately back to a wheelie across the finish line. Brody killed it again on the second round, but had an issue that put him out of the race. Dan and Michael Reid continued to work through the brackets. In the semifinals, Michael Reid’s P43R beat out Alex’s 46mm car putting Michael in the finals with Dan. In what can only be described as a battle, Dan had to pedal the Pro R all the way down the track just to keep the front end down narrowly beating Mike Reid giving Dan the W and Michael 2nd place. Mike Reid’s Can-Am X3 has an EVP Gen 3 P43R turbo system, TAPP Primary, and prototype TAPP Secondary clutch and is custom-tuned on the factory ECU by EVP Co-Owner Jim Zuccone. The EVP Pro R has an EVP P67 Turbo System, TAPP Primary and prototype TAPP secondary custom tuned on a direct plug-and-play Syvecs standalone custom tuned by EVP shop manager and race director Dan Picht.
Mud Racing
The Hootenanny Mud Racing was as exiting as the drag racing with top racers and TV stars from the show “Mud Madness” coming to race.
In the small tire class:
1st Place: SXS Blogs Justin Hyde drove the living hell out of his EVP Powered Polaris Turbo R to a hard fought 1st place.2nd Place: Mud Madness’s Josh Carmon always puts on a good show and drove the his EVP powered Can-Am X3 to second place.
Big Tire Class
1st Place: SXSUSA’s own Caleb Curry navigated a freshly built Can-Am X3 expertly through the course clocking the lowest time. This car was just completed by the SXS USA team a few days before running an EVP DS-355 turbo system on the factory ECU.3rd Place: Mud Madness’s Mike LaFlour put on a huge show with his Kawasaki Teryx. Mike launched off the jump into the water for a great entrance, then navigated the track with the 62” tire car. Mike took 3rd in the big tire class EVP Tuned Team 904 Kawasaki Teryx with an EVP Stage 2 Can-Am X3 engine/turbo package.
