Pataskala, OH (8/19/2018) – Can-Am/XPS Lubricants/CT Raceworx/Evolution Powersports driver Kyle Chaney took the lead about a mile from the start and then led the rest of the way winning his second straight Heartland Challenge UTV race. The four-hour endurance event was held in Carlisle, IA. Evolution Powersports Tuning’s Josh Martell was Chaney’s co-driver in the race. The circuit was shortened slightly from last year to 4.5-miles and comprised a motocross track, open fields and woods. Chaney came out of the land rush start third in his Can-Am X3 and took the lead about a mile into the event. From there, he negotiated lapped traffic, and a thoroughly rutted-out track to score the victory. “It was a really short track at just 4.5 miles, and there were over 80 teams so the track got really beat,” said Chaney. “We got in one clean lap and then we were in lappers pretty much throughout the race, but thankfully most of the lappers pulled over or got out of the way. It turned into a really good race.” 
Chaney enjoyed the nature of the long race because it takes planning, strategy and, most of all, patience to be successful. After taking that early lead, Chaney ran a perfect pace that preserved the car and led him to the top step of the podium “In a four-hour race, you can’t push 100%,” explained Chaney. “You can’t just go wide open, because if you do you’ll break or wear yourself out. That’s what I like about it. I like to get into a good flow and make everything work. It helps to have a good car and the Can-Am X3 is always on point.” 
Chaney was running Maxxis Tires’ new Big Horn 3.0 tires with Tire Balls on DWT wheels. As rough as the track became, Chaney was pleased to report not one tire or wheel related issue during the event. “The new 3.0s provided awesome traction,” said Chaney. “They worked really well. The DWT Wheels held up great. We really had no major problems.” With the racing starting around 7 p.m. CDT, it finished in the dark so a good lighting system was a key component of his program. Chaney ran Diode Dynamics auxiliary lighting and was amazed at how much light they provided in a tiny and lightweight package. “We started using lights about an hour in and it got completely dark about two hours in,” said Chaney. “Diode Dynamics lights are really small, but they are super bright. They did the job for sure.” 
Chaney will head back to short course racing next when he goes to Crandon International Raceway for the Midwest Short Course League season finale August 31-September 1.
