Championship Off Road Racing Rounds 3 & 4 Race Report
Pataskala, OH (7/27/2020) – EVP Sponsored Racer Kyle Chaney won last Sunday’s SXS Pro Modified race and scored a pair of top fives in Pro4 Truck during the Championship Off Road race at Dirt City Raceway in Lena, WI. The event was rounds three and four of this year’s Midwest short course series.
Though mechanical issues sidelined him in the first SXS Pro race, Chaney drove his CT Race WORX-built Can-Am Maverick X3 that’s running EVP Tuning, Intake Plenum, and Charge tubes, to the front in Sunday’s event early and never looked back. After starting on the second row, Chaney quickly took second and then tracked down the leader to score the victory.
“Yesterday we got out front and had a good lead, then we had a mechanical issue,” said Chaney. “We went through the car last night and we did a few different things with the tune and it worked really well. We thought it was going to be a lot muddier than it was with all of the rain, but the track crew did an awesome job. We had some of the best dirt I’ve seen all year.”
Qualifying was rained out so officials lined up the SXS Pro race by points. That placed Chaney fourth at the start, but he wasted no time getting to the front.
“We were lined up by points and that put me on the second row,” explained Chaney. “I got behind the second-place guy in the second corner, then I got around him. Without the halfway caution I had to stay ahead enough to keep my engine cool.”
In Pro4, Chaney built on the success he had at the first round and finished fifth in both races in is PPEI-sponsored ride. In Saturday’s event he got to fifth early and stayed there. In Sunday’s race, he made it fifth on the last lap and then flipped. Though he ended the race on his lid, there was so much carnage that he held onto the fifth spot at the finish.
“I felt really good in the truck coming out of ERX,” said Chaney. “I was comfortable on Saturday and I drove well to get the fifth. On Sunday, we were running fourth and we had an issue. I tried to make a last-lap pass and ended up flipping the truck so we came in fifth. It was a good weekend for us and I’m getting more and more comfortable in the truck.”
Chaney will return to the Championship Off Road series when it heads to Bark River International Raceway August 14-16.
