The Evolution Powersports Billet Recirculating Catch Can for 2024+ Can-Am Maverick R (all models) not only delivers engine efficiency and protection, but it also eliminates potential fumes and odors creeping into the cab like traditional vent-to-atmosphere systems. Instead, the EVP Maverick R Recirculating Catch Can traps harmful combustion gases and oil vapor contaminants ("blow-by") to ensure only clean air returns to the intake to protect your engine and deliver optimal performance. This leads to less carbon buildup, a cleaner intake and intercooler, and no smell or mess.
Turbocharged (forced induction) engines produce more engine blow-by than naturally aspirated vehicles. Like all things for the Maverick R, we took extra time to ensure the Recirculating Catch Can system for this vehicle was the best it could be, particularly with the horsepower levels we've already achieved. The EVP Recirculating Catch Can maintains all OEM functionality as an enclosed system, unlike a vent-to-atmostphere setup.
The key to maximizing power output for a given tune is to get the most efficiency possible. Any crankcase pressure directly reduces maximum power, so we had to take this into consideration given the proximity of our chosen catch can location. Our solution was to lengthen the hose from the valve cover to the catch can itself. Anyone with a basic physics understanding knows that as hose length increases, so does the resistance to flow. Rather than go the easy route of supplying the same ID hose, we had a custom-made hose that increased the diameter of the hose for most of the run from the valve cover to the catch can. The increased diameter reduces back pressure in the crankcase and allows for maximum engine efficiency.
Lastly, we carefully considered the draining process of the catch can, meaning we wanted it to be easy and clean to drain. Our catch can include a stainless steel petcock, stainless elbow, and routing for the drain hose, which is hidden by the bodywork of the vehicle. To empty the catch can, simply put a suitable container on the ground below the drain hose and open the petcock until all the fluid is drained. Simple, easy and clean.
What is an oil catch can and why do you need one? The factory recirculates crankcase air back into the intake. This air contains oil, moisture and other combustion byproducts which contaminates the air that is being fed to the turbocharger. The oil and water infused air coats the turbocharger compressor blades, charge tubes, intercooler and intake valves. It can also change the air/fuel ratio and lower the effective octane of the mixture being introduced into the cylinder. Oil has a very low knock threshold, therefore the more oil contained in the incoming air, the lower the effective knock protection of whatever fuel is being used.
The internal baffle design features a perforated stainless steel cylinder plus additional steel screening to help the oil-infused vapors condensate correctly. This allows the oil to separate from the mixture and also prevents it from further siphoning out, letting the vapor escape for improved overall performance.
All EVP Catch Can kits now come equipped with a petcock-style draining valve at the bottom for clean periodic emptying of the contaminants. Emptying the excess contents is now quicker, hassle-free, and will leave zero mess on you or your surroundings—a great new feature of the updated EVP Catch Can design.
All hardware is stainless steel and the body of the separator is powder coated black. The billet cap can be clocked in 45-degree increments to allow virtually any installation orientation. Not only that, because the cap is removable, the catch can may also be disassembled if desired to fully clean out the contents.
