EVP DISCLAIMER: EVP’s current calibration setup for the new TAPP Secondary Clutch is for X3’s with approximately 215-400 crank horsepower. This includes all EVP X3 Stock Turbo Tunes, Paragon P43, P43R and P46 Turbo Upgrade Systems for Maverick X3. Additional EVP tuning and turbo calibrations are coming soon, along with multiple helix angle inserts and spring rates for custom/fine-tuning.
As the leading provider of TAPP Primary Clutches for the UTV market, EVP worked hand-in-hand with TAPP through numerous revisions to make the design the best possible. The clutch design for the secondary is every bit as innovative as TAPP’s primary clutch. What makes the TAPP Secondary so good is the engineering behind it. It is common knowledge in the industry that there are three main issues with existing secondary clutches: Durability, Roller life, and the necessity to run ridiculous spring pressures and/or dual springs to make up for the poor clamping force. The TAPP secondary solves all of these issues.
On our 800 HP Pro R and Record Holding 43mm Turbo X3, we have made over 100 hits with full high-boost launches and have never broken a roller, fastener, or helix. We can do this while utilizing a mild torsion spring due to the high clamping force of the larger diameter helix.
In addition to solving these, TAPP adds further innovation by incorporating an adjustable spring rate helix cap and replaceable helix ramps. So, rather than buying entire helixes, you can now just replace the angles on the helix. We have also determined that the TAPP Secondary consistently posts the highest dyno numbers on a given tune/calibration due to less belt slip through the secondary.
The Can-Am Maverick X3 EVP TAPP Secondary Clutch comes fully assembled with a 42-degree helix and a secondary spring.
FEATURES
-
Oversize Helix Diameter: Maximizes the clamping force on the belt. One of the largest issues with existing designs is that a small hub limits both the spring coil diameter as well as the maximum force the helix can apply to the belt. Big horsepower cars no longer have to run a double spring.
-
Larger Helix Surface: Allows the use of wider rollers that can better distribute the tremendous loads they experience. This is especially true under drag race conditions. We are happy to report that we have put hundreds of runs on a set of rollers with full on 5000 RPM high boost launches. These drag race launches will damage or destroy all other clutch rollers within a few runs.
-
Replaceable Helix Ramps: TAPP engineered an elegant solution so only parts of the helix ramps need to be changed when you want to change helix angles.
-
Torsionally Adjustable Spring Tension: The design utilizes a torsional style helix cap with adjustable slots which allow the spring torsional tension to be used as a tuning feature.
-
Unmatched Performance: All of these design features add up to power, performance and longer belt life. At the 400 wheel horsepower level, just by changing to the TAPP secondary we were able to get another 15-20 horsepower to the wheels. Whether you are trail riding, dunning or racing, belt life will be extended when using a properly calibrated TAPP Clutch.
